Julius H. Corpening was graduated from Wake Forest College in 1949. He continued his studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky. He held pastorates of Baptist churches in Moncure, North Carolina; Durham, North Carolina; and Hampton, South Carolina. In 1969, he came to Wake Forest University to head the Piedmont Church and Industry Institute, and as director of the Urban Affairs Institute. He then moved into development for Wake Forest University.
