W.C. Reed was a graduate of Wake Forest College, Class of 1925; a school principal; Baptist pastor; Superintendent of the Kennedy Home (1943-50); and General Superintendent of the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina (1950-58). He was also a very active Rotarian.

His papers consist of biographical information; correspondence, 1924-70; reports; photographs; newspaper cluppings; talks and addresses; notes for English Literature and Christian Ethics (courses taken at Wake Forest College, 1924-25); a diary (1930); his notes and proofs of his history of the Baptist Children's Home, Love in Action; and his sermons, sermon notes, and outlines.
