Williams is an alumnus of Wake Forest College (Class of 1935) and a retired Baptist minister, having served Tarboro First, Spindale First, and Mount Holly First Baptist churches. He was licensed to preach by the Cartlege Creek Baptist Church.

His papers consist of folders relating to his pastorates, the Williams family, the Dockery family, his education at Wake Forest College, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, including some of his writings. The minute book of Mountain Creek Union, Richmond County, North Carolina (1831-35) and typescript are also in the family papers.
