Biographical and Historical Note

Harold Seton is best known for his work as a journalist, author, and collector. His interest in society and theatre was written about in his column “Theatre Thoughts” in Theatre Magazine as well as the work he produced while writing for Town Topics: The Journal of Society. Harold Seton accumulated a collection of over 10,000 theatrical photographs, making large donations to both the New York Historical Society and the Folger Shakespeare Library of Washington, DC. As a theatre enthusiast and a society follower, Seton was knowledgeable of gossip, sharing some with Lucius Beebe through correspondence, housed at The New York Historical Society, and divulging his interests on the pages of various magazines.
