Dear Mr. and Mrs. Cash:

	Thank you for the kind invitation to dinner. 
As I explained to Helen Parker, I was scheduled to precede from the 
Journal to Grant Wood, another fleet footed visitor to Atlanta the 
Golden. Painting and Iowa are even obscurer to me than North Caro-
lina and the Southern disposition, so you can imagine how he will 
suffer.

	I was mortified when the interview with you appeared 
bristling with typographical errors. The very least I could hope 
for was that you'd be favorably impressed by the Journal's mechani-
cal department. I sent down corrections and a proof came back with 
two new errors. As far as I am concerned, you're free to loathe 
the mechanical department.

	Compliments on your grand book, best wished from the 
novels to come, good luck in winning the Guggenheim award, and 
thanks again.
