He was also an author, organist, and a member of the Sudan Temple of the Shrine. This collection reflects Poteat's personal and professional interests, including copies of his writings and speeches, a photograph, a notebook (circa 1907), and excerpts of Mrs. Wilma Parrish's journal describing Poteat's funeral in 1958. Biographical Note Hubert McNeill Poteat was born on 1886 December 12, in Wake Forest, North Carolina, to William Louis Poteat and Emma James Poteat; he died 1958 January 29. Poteat was an alumnus of Wake Forest College (1906), of which his father became president in 1905, and a Wake Forest College professor of Latin and head of the Classics Department (1912-1956). He was also an author, organist, and Grand Master of the North Carolina Lodge and Past Potentate of the Sudan Temple of the Shrine . He was married to Essie Moore Morgan; together they had two sons, Hubert McNeill Poteat, Jr., and William Morgan Poteat.
