You may perhaps have heard before this of the lamented death of Elder Sylvanus Haynes. He was intered on New Years day. An infant of his daughter Emily was buried in the same grave. I have heard nothing more in regard to his death. His afflicted people must be supplied. Some of our friends have thought of the vacancy as an eligible situation for you. I sometimes think of a home with some little solicitude. Perhaps my mind is too much exercised on the subject. I long for the time when we may be permitted to dwell in quiet by our own fire side. When we can together bow before the family altar and adore the giver of every benefit gift for benefits received and implore his aid and protection in future. I know we are all rapidly hastening to the grave, the house appointed for all the living and that we shall most assuredly, ere long reach that goal of silence, and darkness. Perhaps that may be our first, and lasting resting place. Could we say with our, dear deceased parent "I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that I shall stand with him at the last day" we should not be much affected by the little changes of this transitory state of existence. In prospect of life or death we would say, with that heavenly composure which transported his departing spirit so far above every thing earthly, Father thy will be done.
