Friday Feb. 16 Returned to Mr. Franklin’s. – found Dr. S. convalescent – and able to ride as far as Newbern. We came therefore, to the house of our good friend and brother Mr. William Handcock, by whom we had been most agreeably entertained. Sat. Feb. 17 Continued in Newbern – made arrangements for having our waggon and harness &c. repaired with all possible dispatch – Mr. Hatch paid his subscription of ten dollars. Sabbath Feb. 18 Dr. S. preached in the morning for the Bap. afternoon and even. for the Pres. – Mr. W. preached in the morning for the Pres. and in the afternoon for the Baptists. Much cause for thankfulness that Dr. S. is so rapidly regaining his health and strength. Mon. Feb. 19 Still in Newbern – day spent in conversation with several friends. Have now a fair prospect of leaving this place soon. Dr. S. preached in the eve. In the Methodist meeting–house to a large assembly – a solemn time.
