[Bottom of page 4] Highly esteemed Brother, Your kind favor of Sept. 9 was duly received. I was happy to learn, that, you had regained your health; and of your and Brother W's safe arrival at W. Our friends, in this place, have, for some time past, feared that you pursued your studies with that vigor which your constitution was not able to bear. Mr Chase also observed when he was here that he thought you was quite too studious for your health and wished us to inform you so from him. Do be careful- health is more easily preserved than gained after it is once gone. We heard, a few days since, from Seth Whitman, who in company with Mr. Beriah Leach had set out for home on a visit- was taken very dangerously ill at Kingsbury NY- sent for his parents- is not expected to recover. [Top of page 4] The Lord hath wrought a good work here. Between 40 and a 100, have been made the hopeful subjects of divine mercy. 26 have united with the Baptist church a number more are expected to come forward soon. A few have also joined with the Congres and a few with the Methodists. May the good Lord still work and ride forth from conquering unto conquer. Reuben Sawyer's wife is seriously shaken in her pedoe sentiments and has almost become a decided baptist. Uncle S Conant and aunt appear to be much engaged in this reformation more so than I ever saw them. Amanda also it is hoped has chosen that good part which shall never be taken from her. Uncle, still retains his Unitarian sentiments. We heard a short time since from the Ohio Uncle and Aunt Conant Mr. Bliss and Lady all lay at the point of death. Accept of my best wishes for your prosperity and be so good as to make the same acceptable to Br W Sister M wishes a particular remembrance to both Lydia C. Merriam
