Biographical/Historical Note Franklin Baptist Church was organized on May 4, 1822, in the Cherokee Purchase of Haywood County. The presbytery consisted of Elders Stephen White and Adam Corn. Elder Humphrey Posey was called as the first pastor of the church. There were twenty constituent members. Association membership history of the church includes the French Broad Association from 1822 to 1829, Tuckaseigee Association from 1829 to 1904, and Macon Association from 1904 to the present. A history of the church was written by Mrs. Hyldah Stalcup Shepard and was entitled, "A brief history of the First Baptist Church of Franklin, Macon County, North Carolina...February 27, 1959."
