Liberty Baptist Church was organized Saturday, June 15, 1885 at Liberty School House in Buncombe County, N.C. The Reverends S. C. Owen and E. P. Morgan were the presbytery. The church adopted articles of faith and a church covenant. The Reverend M. M. Slude was elected as the first pastor.
