Harmony Grove Baptist Church was organized May 31, 1845, Nebo township, McDowell County, N.C. as the result of an earlier meeting held March 1, 1845, at Harmony Grove Meeting House when it was decided to form a church and to call a presbytery for this purpose. The presbytery consisted of Elder Lewis Mc. Curry, Moderator, J. C. Grayson, Clerk, and deacons William O. Wallace from Cane Creek and D. Morgan from Round Hill. Fifteen charter members were enrolled from Bethel, Round Hill, and Head of 1st Broad Baptist churches. Articles of faith were adopted, church officers were elected, and two more members were admitted to the church. Joseph C. Grayson was elected as their first pastor.
