Henry Nathan Blanchard was born on September 24, 1885. He was an alumnus of Wake Forest College (1909) and was ordained in 1908. He married Bertha Wells on June 14, 1914, in Kent, Indiana, while serving as a pastor there; he also acted as pastor in Greenville, North Carolina. While a chaplain in the U.S. Army, Blanchard served in Mobile, Alabama; France; Charleston, South Carolina; Key West, Florida; and Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
