Smith Reynolds Library Special Collections and Archives 1 1.3 linear feet 1 record carton 1959-1997 Roy Lee Hood (born August 16, 1937) was a Reverend active in North Carolina and Tennessee communities in both religious and secular capacities. Materials document the lives of Roy and his wife, Barbara, including autobiographical notes, biographical files, certificates, church financial and program records, newspaper clippings, personal correspondence, personal sermons and other writings, photographs, and poetry. Roy Lee Hood was born August 16, 1937, to Harvey Leonias Hood and Eunice Edgerton Hood, in Goldsboro, NC. He attended Campbell Junior College, earned a 1-year Business Administration Certificate and continued his Campbell education to earn an ABA degree in 1957. He then graduated from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee in 1959 with a double major in sociology and psychology and a double minor in religion and Greek. After graduating, Hood started a Baptist mission in Tennessee and also acted as a principal and teacher. He married Barbara Jean Russell on August 13, 1961, and they moved to Wake Forest, NC, where they both graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1964. In addition to his pastoring experiences, Hood served his community in a variety of capacities including student supervisor, counseling, and teaching. Both Barbara and Roy were involved in prison and rehabilitation ministries. He and Barbara had three children together.

These records document the life of Roy Lee Hood (born August 16, 1937) from middle school to his later life as a minister, and Barbara Hood. Materials include his school papers and transcripts, community service records, employment records, personal correspondence, certificates, sermons and other writings, church financial and program documents, photographs, autobiographical notes, poetry, and newspaper clippings. The collection also includes a small amount of materials regarding Barbara, his wife, including her employment records, autobiographical notes, and personal writings.
