Daisie Ghelson Mitchell passed away in 1920 and was survived by four daughters. This collection contains memorabilia of her life and that of her daughter, Daisie Allen Mitchell, in North Carolina and Virginia. Materials include correspondence to Mrs. Daisy and Daisy Allen, education records, family memorabilia, photographs and portraits of family and friends, and writings by members of the Mitchell family.
Biographical Note
Mrs. Daisie Mitchell, born Daisie Ghelson, died in 1920 and was survived by four daughters: Daisie Allen Mitchell, Dorothy Perry Mitchell, Mary Martin Mitchell, and Helen Grace Mitchell. Daisie Allen was in the ninth grade at the time of her mother's death, and the ages of the other daughters are not known. The family resided in Charlie Hope, Virginia, but Daisie Allen moved to Norlina, North Carolina after her mother's passing to finish high school. She attended the state teacher's college in Farmville, Virginia. After college, she resided in Norlina, North Carolina and Isle of Wight, Virginia until 1930. She then relocated to Suffolk, Virginia, where held a teaching job.

This collection provides memorabilia from the life of the Mitchell family, particularly Daisie Allen Mitchell and her mother Mrs. Daisie Mitchell. It covers the time period from Daisie Ghelson's marriage in 1901 to Seldon Mitchell up through Daisie Allen Mitchell's adult life.
