This collection contains materials related to Stroupe's work as a history professor and dean of the Graduate School; documentation about his writing is also included. Materials include correspondence, course materials, memorandums, notes, reports, research, studies, and writings. A small amount of personal materials, including photographs and correspondence, are also included.

 Biographical Note

Henry Smith Stroupe was born on June 3, 1914. He received both bachelors and masters degrees from Wake Forest (1935, 1937); he was also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a leadership honor society. In 1942, he earned his Ph.D. from Duke. Stroupe began teaching at Wake Forest College while studying at Duke and after World War II joined the History department faculty full-time in 1946. While at the University, he also served as dean of the Graduate School. Stroupe retired in 1984.

In 1942, he married Elizabeth Denham, who became a elementary and high school teacher and librarian; together they had two sons.
