Smith Reynolds Library Special Collections and Archives 1.5 linear feet 1 oversize box 1812-1912 The first conference was held at Concord in 1807, when it was a branch of Bulltail (now Wells Chapel Baptist Church). It continued with the same deacons and clerks until February 18, 1825 when it was constituted as a separate church, Elders Raphel, Fennell, and Stallings officiating. In 1835 twenty-four members were dismissed to Beaver Dam (now Magnolia). In 1853, thirty-two members were given letters of dismission in order that they might organize Carroll's Chapel (now Corinth). In April of 1866, the Corinth membership (after having dissolved their church) were received into Concord. In June they were granted their letters to re-organize Corinth again. This collection includes volumes 1 and 2 of the church minute book, a church letter, financial record, obituary, membership lists, and minutes. The first series includes 2 volumes of the church minute book. The second series includes membership rolls, rules of decorum, declaration of faith, and an obituary. Additionally, it includes membership rolls, rules of decorum, declaration of faith, and an obituary. Loose items include a subscription list for W. M. Kennedy's salary (1879), a church letter from Beaverdam Baptist Church (1869), and two membership lists, 1880 and undated. Related Materials Z. African American Baptists--North Carolina Church minutes Series 1 1812-1882 Church minute book, volume 1 1 1 1812-1840 Contains minutes of quarterly church conferences from February, 1812 to September 19, 1840; a male and femal membership list, 1823; a partial membership list, undated; rules of decorum, 1819; a list of contributors, 1819; and a letter of dismissal from Bulltail (Wells Chapel) and the formation of Concord, Feb., 1825. This volume is in very bad condition with missing and fragmentary pages. Church minute book, volume 2 1 2 1843-1882 Contains minutes of church conferences from November 19, 1842 to March 4, 1882; a declaration of faith, rules of decorum, a church covenant, an undated male and female membership list, list of church members desiring a copy of the Baptist Psalmody; and a memorial on the deaths of William Byrd and Susan Matthews, 1863.
