Historical note

The Snow Hill First Baptist Church was organized on January 4, 1850 by a presbytery consisting of Elders Harley Minor, J.M.C. Breaker, and Jacob Utley with brethren Jones and Wheeler. Elder Minor was elected moderator. J. Wheeler was elected clerk. Charter members were Jonathan and Mary Wood, Albert H. Dowell, John Joiner, Sr., John Joiner, Jr., and Mrs. Albert H. Dowell, who joined the church Sunday, January 5, 1850. Harley Minor was the first pastor.

The church lapsed after the disbanding of the Pamlico Baptist Association in 1872, and next appears in the 1881 minutes of the Eastern Baptist Association with 1881 given as the church's organization date and with William B. Knight as pastor.
