Smith Reynolds Library Special Collections and Archives 13.8 linear feet 9 record cartons, 5 document boxes 1864-1974 Arnold Edmund Hayes (1893-1982) and his wife Helen Ford Hayes (1895-1993) served as Southern Baptist Convention missionaries to Brazil, 1919-1954. Their papers consist of genealogical files on the Hayes and Chisholm families; scripture notes; family correspondence; writings and notes on their work in Brazil; photographs; a scrapbook ; correspondence with various employees of the Southern Baptist Convention Foreign Missions Board and other missionaries; sermons and materials; and Arnold Hayes's journals, 1920-1969. Their papers consist of genealogical files on the Hayes and Chisholm families and other related materials; scripture notes; family correspondence; writings and notes on their work in Brazil; photographs; a scrapbook; financial records', teaching credentials', church records; correspondence with various employees of the Southern Baptist Convention Foreign Missions Board and other missionaries; sermons and sermon note cards; and Arnold Hayes's journals, 1920-1969. This collection has been minimally processed, so information is limited about its contents beyond the information provided here.

 Biographical Note

Arnold Edmund Hayes was born on July 7,1893 and died on September 8, 1982. Helen Ford Hayes was born on August 23, 1895 to John W. Ford and Martha Curtis Bruner Ford; she died March 29, 1993. Together Arnold and Helen served as Southern Baptist Convention missionaries to Brazil, 1919-1954. They retired to Pinnacle, North Carolina, and are buried in Pinnacle Baptist Church cemetery.
