September 17 [ 1815] The exercises of my mind for a fortnight past have been various allthough [sic] for the most part of the time I have enjoyed in some degree the light of Gods countenance Since last sabbath the deplorable condition of the ungodly has much agitated my feelings I have thought at times I should be willing to spend and be spent to be instrumental of good to their never dying souls I have spent twenty one years of precious time in doing nothing. Surely now it is time to be about my Masters business O that God would give me grace that I might run and not be weary walk and not faint.
