According to historian Linda Parramore Culpepper, on May 13, 1866, the congregation of the White Mud Creek Baptist Church agreed to let their "colored friends" use the meeting house as a place to worship on particular Sundays. Mud Creek Missionary Baptist Church is an African American church organized in May of 1867.

Records consist of a manuscript page describing the organization of the church, the covenant, a list of deacons selected and members present and seven record books containing minutes of church conferences, membership lists, a covenant and bylaws, lists of pastors, church officers, trustees, board members and financial records.
