Cane River Baptist Church was constituted in 1800, and was admitted to the Broad River Baptist Association the same year as Caney River Baptist Church. It was located in that part of Buncombe County which was cut off in 1833 to become a part of Yancey County. In 1849 Bethlehem Baptist Church united with Caney River and the united churches were called Cane River Baptist Church.
