Hester Baptist Church, located in the northwest corner of Oxford Township, 5 miles northwest of the Town of Oxford on the Oxford-Virgilina Road, was organized on September 13, 1823. Two young ministers were present: Brother Samuel Duty, a native of Granville County, and Reverend Robert T. Daniel, born in Virginia and reared in Chatham County, North Carolina. The place of meeting: a log house, 20 x 20 donated with the lot by Captain Benjamin Hester, for whom the church was named.
