	Preached twice to day - - Some enjoyment in the house of God – In the eve. attended meeting in the Epis. Meeting – house. A contribution was taken up in aid of a missionary Society - - should have been glad to have given much – but gave only 12 ˝ - - the widow’s mite.  The conditions of this people lies with considerable weight on my mind.  O that I knew what duty was, and had a heart to do it!

Mon. May 21
	Called today at the Prison – conversed & prayed with the prisoners - - Some enjoyment in this exercise - - - the day has been one of considerable discouragement to me. I cannot tell why it is that my confidence in God seems sometimes to be almost entirely gone.  O! that I could always feel that I am in the hands of a Being most merciful and kind; and that if I do my duty, I have nothing to fear!  O! Lord help me to trust in thee! May I ever feel that I am not my own, but that I am (professedly) bought with a price.
