The Cowee Baptist church was constituted on March 15, 1828 in the "Cherokee Purchase," Macon County, North Carolina. The presbytery consisted of Elders Stephen White and Humphrey Posey. There were fifteen charter members (six males and nine females) from the Franklin Baptist Church, Macon County, N.C.

Permission of the church must be obtained to copy these records in their entirety.
Volumes 1-2 were loaned for microfilming by Cowee Baptist Church and received from Mr. Herbert Hall, Winston-Salem, N.C. on January 11, 1966 and returned to Mr. Hall on March 18, 1966. Volumes 3-11 were loaned for microfilming and returned to the church by Mr. Kevin Davis, Youth Minister, Cowee Baptist Church, Franklin, N.C. on April 21, 1995.
