Scope and Contents note

These two reels of microfilm contain the records for Mount Olive Baptist Church in Morganton, North Carolina for the period from 1884 to 1972. The first reel contains a book of history on the church until 1965. This book contains an account of the church's history, a list of pastors, a list of deacons, a list of Sunday School superintendents, its rules of decorum, its articles of faith and its church covenant, as well as a few photographs. The second reel contains three books of minutes. Book 1 covers the period from 1920 to 1952. Book 2 covers 1960-1970. Book 3 covers 1970-1972. All three of these books contain the church's membership lists and the minutes from its meetings. In addition, Book 1 contains the church's rules of decorum and its articles of faith.

Historical note

Mount Olive Baptist Church was first organized in 1884. It takes its name from a suggestion offered by church member Mrs. Leander Morrison. In the year 1900, a new building was constructed to house the church. Another new building would be constructed in 1928, and in 1962, an educational building was added.
