The Osborne Memorial Baptist Church is located on Route #3, Sparta, Alleghany County, North Carolina. The church was constituted September 26, 1943, as a result of a very successful evangelistic meeting conducted by Reverend Brice Barton. The church was named for Bruce Wayne Osborne, the first casualty from World War II in Alleghany County. The present building was dedicated in 1945 on the property of the Turkey Knob School where the church had been holding its first meetings. The first resident clergyman was Reverend Brice Barton, 1943-1949. Church membership in 1963 was 106.
