New Hope Baptist Church, near Lewis Fork Creek, was first organized in 1830 by 23 former members of Reddies River and Cranberry churches and with the blessing of these churches. The church was built halfway between the lands of two of its first converts. In 1835, it became a part of the Lewis Fork Baptist Association which later became Brushy Mountain Baptist Association. Its membership increased exponentially in 1867 and 1921 due to great revivals conducted at the church. By 1950, it had 267 members.

This collection consists of a single roll of microfilm containing three books of records from New Hope Baptist Church of Purlear, North Carolina. Book 1 provides the church's constitution, rules of decorum, and a list of charter members, as well as the minutes, membership roll, and record of deaths for the period from 1830 to 1930. Book 2 contains the church's history from 1830-1950 which includes the church's covenant, its abstract of principles, and a record of deaths. Book 3 contains the membership roll as of 1915.
