- description
- Dr. Anne Boyle first became interested in Women's Studies through a project which had her sort and annotate the letters of Caroline Gordon. This led to her study of British women writers for her dissertation. When she came to Wake Forest, Dr. Boyle was surprised at the willingness of faculty to embrace teaching courses on challenging topics like women's studies or ethnic studies. Through an interdisciplinary approach, Boyle and her colleagues were able to better explore these ideas and present them to students. She went on to serve as the Director of Women's Studies from 2003 to 2005. In this interview, she recalls the process of creating the program for Women's Studies and the selection of the first Director.
