Dr. Wanda Balzano served as the Director of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Wake Forest from 2005 to 2019. In this interview, Balzano discusses her background in women's studies beginning with growing up in Italy. Her interest in Anglo-Irish literature drew her to Wake Forest University which is home to the Wake Forest University Press which publishes Irish authors. Dr. Balzano recalls her time as Director of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and the obstacles she and her colleagues had to overcome in creating a student-centered approach.
