Dr. Deborah (Debbie) Best graduated with from Wake Forest University in 1970 with a degree in Psychology and in 1972 received her Master's degree in General Experimental Psychology. After going into part-time private practice, Best returned to Wake Forest as a Professor of Psychology, serving as Department Chair from 1994 to 2002. Best made history in 2004 after being appointed Dean of the College, the first female in this role at Wake Forest. In this wide-ranging interview, Dr. Best discusses the reasons why she came to Wake Forest, the lack of female representation on campus during her years, and the reasons behind her career trajectory. She also provides important insight into the challenges she faced as Dean of the College and the progress she made in the role. A major theme of the interview is the lasting friendships Best made with her classmates and society sisters along with the various fun memories associated with these relationships.
