description
Roper Halverson is a 1976 graduate of Wake Forest University. She majored in Health & Exercise Science and played an integral part of women gaining greater equality and opportunities in athletics. During her time at Wake Forest, Halverson was a member of the basketball, golf, and volleyball teams. She also joined Steps, a social society. This interview primarily focuses on Halverson's historic sports career and the challenges she and her fellow teammates had to overcome to succeed athletically. She sheds lights on the lack of resources, funding, and overall respect for the women's programs despite their early successes. Additionally, she talks about the transition from high school to college, providing insight into her academic experience. In 1977, Halverson became the University's first female athletic trainer. In 2013, she was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame.
