- description
- Dr. AJ Mazaris (they/them/theirs) is the founding director of the LGBTQ Center at Wake Forest University. This interview highlights Mazaris' journey to the campus of Wake Forest and explores the relationships they have built with queer and trans students from their first day in the Forest to the present. Mazaris authentically shares challenges they encountered along the way. For instance, they share how their transition to the South was difficult-- it was jarring transitioning to an environment where there was silence surrounding the LGBTQ student experience. Despite these moments of hardship, Mazaris continues to advocate for and empower queer students at Wake due to their passion for building LGBTQ-inclusive spaces.
