- Thomas K. Hearn was appointed the University's 12th president in 1983 and served until June 2005. He received bachelor's degrees at Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama and a divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky and a doctorate in philosophy from Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. In this interview, Hearn discusses his leadership style, influence on alumni, faculty, trustees, and students, learning from William Poteat, his work with leadership conferences, President Aid, and Presidential Scholarships. He discusses the responsibility and impact of a university president's decisions. Hearn reminisced on his connection to athletics; swimming, tennis, Knights Commission, ACC and his meeting notable people; Arthur Ashe, Gary Trudeau, Arnold Palmer.
