Dave Brown graduated with a degree in Economics from Denison University in Ohio and received his master's and doctoral degrees in Economics from Princeton University. Brown was Wake Forest University Provost from 1990 - 1998, Vice President and Dean of the International Center for Computer-Enhanced Learning (ICCEL) and initiated the Spires of Excellence program. In this interview, Brown discusses working with President Thomas Hearn, his administrative style, his strategic planning, and elevating professional programs. Brown talks about the Center for Creative Leadership, AAU status, working on the plan for "Class of 2000" with John Anderson, Bill Joyner, Paul Escott, Claudia Thomas, the teaching load and salaries of the faculty and student opportunities and scholarships. He discusses WFU tuition costs as a private university, the quality of education, explaining what a teacher scholar is and its responsibility. He discusses what he wants to be remembered for and what he is least remembered for.
