Biographical and Historical Note
The Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URECA) Center was established in 2008 and functions as an umbrella organization that promotes undergraduate research and facilitates collaboration between faculty and students. Each year the Center hosts an Undergraduate Student Research Day, during which students present their findings through poster sessions, oral presentations, and panel discussions. Audiences include peers, faculty, staff, and family members.
The URECA Center is governed by an executive committee, consisting of administration and senior faculty members who represent a range of disciplines, departments, and programs. The Center receives administrative support from the Office of the Dean.
The Center facilitates student and faculty participation in a range of programs and initiatives that support mentored, undergraduate scholarship. These programs have included: the Paul K. and Evalyn Richter Memorial Fund, the Wake Forest Research Fellows Program, the Atlantic Coast Conference Inter-institutional Academic Collaborative, and the C. V. Starr Foundation. The Center supports student participation in domestic and international conferences and symposia with funding opportunities and travel grants. The center also sponsors professional and career development workshops.
