Collection Overview

This collection, RG1.13.mp, contains records from the WFU presidency of Nathan O. Hatch (2005-2021) that have not yet been fuilly processed. The collection is currently divided into twelve series, based on their level of inventory as well as contents. Some of these materials will not be added to the record collection, such as the publications; they will be evaluated for cataloging and inclusion in Special Collections and Archives Rare Book Collection or in ZSR Library's general collection. A small number of files are retricted and need to be reviewed according the University record schedules and retention policies; they contain personnel materials, personally identifiable information, or other record types that are discarded per the records schedule.

Abbreviations are usually elemented but were retained in these materials. Abbreviations seen in the listing include, but are not limited to: BOV: Board of Visitors; NAICU: National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities; WF or WFU: Wake Forest University; WFUHS: Wake Forest University Health Sciences; WFUBMC: Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center; and WS or W-S: Winston Salem.

There is not a box 43 in the collection at this time.

These series may not be retained once the materials are fully processed and integrated into the Nathan O. Hatch Records collection. The collection is organized into 12 series:

  • Series 1. Audiovisual and computer materials: This series contains compact discs, containing various media, and videocassettes. These items have not been viewed to determine copyright or accessibility. It is organized in original order.
  • Series 2. Board of Trustees materials, currently restricted: This series contains Hatch's preliminary or preparatory materials for the meeting and may also contain agendas and related materials. All the University's Board of Trustees materials, including the items in this series, are closed for 50 years after the date of creation. It is organized in chronological order.
  • Series 3. Event files, itemized: These files document meetings, events, trips, and other social or professional engagements attended; in some cases, attendance seems to have just been considered but not confirmed. Full listings for these materials were created by the President's Office staffers before the records were transferred. It is organized in chronological order.
  • Series 4. Event files, not itemized: Like Series 3. Event files, itemized, these materials document meetings, events, trips, and other social or professional engagements attended. However, inventories were not provided so these folders haven't been inventoried completely yet. It is organized in chronological order.
  • Series 5. Memorabilia and artifacts: This series contains realia and physical objects that document events, awards, and the University generally. It is organized in original order.
  • Series 6. NCAA materials: This series contains materials related to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) national athletics.
  • Series 7. Subject files, itemized: This series contains subject files that were inventoried individually.
  • Series 8. Subject files, not itemized: This series contains subject files that have not yet been inventoried individually; files in the boxes are in rough alphabetical order.
  • Series 9. Transition to WFU files: This series contains materials that are related to Hatch's transition to and early days in the University presidency in 2005.
  • Series 10. WFUBMC/Medical materials: This series contains files related to the Baptist Medical Center and its governance and personnel.
  • Series 11. Books and other publications to be separated and/or cataloged: This series contains items that are likely to be removed and cataloged; though a few are itemized, the vast majority have not been individually listed.
  • Series 12. Files to be reviewed per records schedule, currently restricted: This series contains files that have been indentified to contain restricted materials or those that may be disposed per the University records schedules.
