James D. Wilkins, Sr., was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro, N.C., and participated in the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. This collection contains correspondence, notes, church history materials, and other church records related to Wilkins' work with the church and Convention.

Biographical and Historical Note

James D. Wilkins, Sr., born September 19, 1880, was a prominent Baptist layman and iron manufacture business owner in Greensboro, N.C. He owned J. D. Wilkins Company from 1910 until his death. The Wilkins family belonged to First Baptist Church, Greensboro; Wilkins also served as a member of Meredith College's board of trustees.

He was married to Katie Fristoe Wilkins; together they had three sons and a daughter. He died July 22, 1956.
