- description
- The beginning of this meeting focuses on the ongoing effort by Wake Forest University to create a memorial honoring the enslaved peoples whose sale kept the college afloat during the Civil War. The members also discuss a series of more recent incidents of bias against Black students at Wake Forest and in the surrounding community of Winston-Salem. By putting together this chronology The Association of Wake Forest University Black Alumni (AWFUBA) group aims to provide a better understanding of the ongoing conversation taking place in the Slavery, Race, & Memory Project at Wake Forest. The middle half of this meeting culminates in a discussion surrounding the issues and experiences of Black students at Wake Forest. The members span a variety of graduation years from 1968 to the 2020s allowing for a candid and wide-ranging sharing session.
