- description
- Deb Marke was born in Atlanta, GA, and grew up in Kennesaw, GA. They began attending Wake Forest in 2012, as a part of the class of 2016. At the time of the interview, she was working as the assistant director for advocacy and social justice education at Wake Forest's Office of Civic and Community Engagement. This interview touches on her experiences as a student, feeling out of place at Wake Forest and finding community in the Women's Center and by doing activist work around campus, her experiences with the queer community in both Winston-Salem and Cincinnati, where she lived and worked briefly, and the complexity of family relationships as a queer person and first-generation American. They also discuss the importance of social justice work, community care, and representation, especially for queer people of color.
