description
Fernando Ayala-Cortez was born in El-Salvador and moved to Winston-Salem with their family when they were 9 years old. They grew up in Winston-Salem, attending Atkins High School, and they now attend Forsyth Technical Community College pursuing a degree in engineering. This interview focuses on Fernando's exploration of their queer identity, considering the role of El-Salvador's machismo culture and their Catholic upbringing, as well as their use of social media in understanding their identity, and their current and past involvement at the North Star Community Center in Winston-Salem. Fernando is someone passionate about community-building and using their position to help others come to term with their struggles.
