Black and white photograph with a thick white border shows a band and choir performing at a December 1943 Christmas Vespers service in Wake Forest Baptist Church (Wake Forest, N.C.). The band of men students, in suits and ties, hold instruments and stand on a platform or in front of church pews. The choir, mad up of soldiers in uniform, townspeople, and Glee Club members, stand in the choir area of the altar, hold sheet music, and appear to be singing. The congregation is standing in pews in the foreground. A reproduction of Raphael's "Madonna of the Chair" painting sits on stage between Christmas trees. The back of the photograph reads "Christmas Vesper[s], Dec. 1943" and "WFA." The image is shown in The Howler (1944), page 103.
