REAL HOT GIRL SHIT!: EVOLUTIONS IN FEMINIST RHETORIC IN HIP-HOP AS SEEN IN MEGAN THEE STALLION’S MUSIC

abstract
This thesis uses rhetorical analysis rooted in intersectional feminism to explore evolutions in feminist messaging in hip-hop music by women. Through lyrical analysis, themes of financial freedom and autonomy are explored through the contexts of expense sharing in heterosexual relationships, reproductive justice, and contract disputes. These evolutions reflect a frustration with liberal feminism while emphasizing new intersectional approaches that promote equality.
