This handwritten court record, dated June 21, 1730, contains the minutes of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in Craven County. It was copied from a book spanning the years 1730 to 1746. The document details a deed of sale from the commissioners of Newbern (modern-day New Bern) to George Roberts for a lot of land. Following the land transaction, the court heard a petition from a group identified as "people called Baptists" requesting permission to build a house of worship. Upon review, the court granted their request, with the understanding that the group affirmed all of the Articles of the Church of England, except for Articles 27 and 36. The record concludes with a note that the court adjourned until the next morning. This copy was presented to Wake Forest College by C. Durham through Professor W. L. Poteat.
