| dc.description | In 1988, North Carolina Baptist Hospital became the first hospital in North Carolina to offer an air transport program for patient's traveling more than 150 miles. AirCare International was a joint effort between Piedmont Aviation and North Carolina Baptist Hospital. Piedmont supplied the plane and the pilots, while NCBH staffed the flight with health care professionals. The King Air 100 plane could travel much farther than the helicopter without having to stop and refuel. It also had the latest in extensive life support technology which permitted for the caring of seriously ill or traumatized patients whose condition was stable. One nurse and one paramedic staffed most of the flights and rotated their shifts between AirCare International and AirCare's helicopter. | en_US |
