dc.description Though helicopters can usually land anywhere flat, a fabricated helipad provides a clearly marked surface away from obstacles where a helicopter can land. Helipads are usually constructed out of concrete and are marked with a circle and/or a letter "H", so as to be visible from the air. This aerial photo shows North Carolina Baptist Hospital's first helipad for AirCare in 1986. AirCare at that time had 12 crew members consisting of nine flight nurses and two helicopter pilots and one mechanic. One of the houses in the background was used as the pilots' quarters and office space for the AirCare medical team members. en_US
