dc.description	Medical photography and art make a huge contribution to patient care. The Department of Medical Illustration was organized at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1949. This department, now called Creative Communications, still provides a service to fulfill the visual aid needs of the entire Medical Center. Drawing pictures of the effects of disease on various body organs, sketching operating room techniques, photographing and even designing and building such things as artificial noses or ears are all facets of medical illustrations. This photo shows medical illustrator Mr. A. Hooker Goodwin, applying mock injuries to a cast for the purpose of training in the early 1950s.	en_US
