Joseph Conrad Watkins, also known as J.C. Watkins, graduated from Wake Forest College in 1897, and later served as a College trustee. These papers consist of a grade report, November 15, 1894; and a letter from W.W. Ward, circa August 29, 1895, turning his scholarship over to Watkins with a note by Charles E. Taylor on the bottom of the letter.

Biographical and Historical Note

Joseph Conrad Watkins, also known as J.C. Watkins, was born November 27, 1873, and received a bachelor of arts degree from Wake Forest College (1897). He attended Salem Boys School in Winston-Salem. After receiving his D.D.S. from the University of Maryland (1900), he practiced medicine in Winston. Watkins married Irene Montague on June 21, 1902, and together they had three children: Joseph Conrad Watkins, Jr., Richard Montague Watkins, and Eleanor Watkins (later Starbuck). In addition to his work as a dentist, Watkins served as a College trustee and was awarded an honorary degree from WFC in 1922. Watkins died on January 5, 1959, and Irene died on November 11, 1957.
