Finding Aid & Inventory

WFU's University Police department was first mentioned in the Old Gold and Black in 1963; it is currently headed by Regina Lawson. This collection documents the work of WFU's campus police department. Materials include brochures, emails, guides, memorandums, news articles, and reports.

Biographical and Historical Note

WFU's University Police department, according to its mission statement as of 2021, "is committed to a comprehensive approach in providing a safe and inclusive community where students, faculty, staff and visitors may experience a sense of security and belonging." The first mention of a campus police force in the Old Gold and Black appears to be in 1963, when Hal F. Greeson (1963) wrote about police's parking enforcement; that responsibility is no longer handled by University Police.

The department is headed by a chief, Regina Lawson (1992-current). Lawson joined WFU as the assistant chief in 1989.

The department puts out an annual report of statistics each year, to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, also known as the Clery Act.
