dc.description.abstract Sophie Lanneau was a graduate of Meredith College, and a teacher and Southern Baptist Convention educational missionary to China, 1907 to 1951. She founded the Wei Ling Girls' Academy in Soochow (1911) and was interned by the Japanese in 1942. She was repatriated to the United States in 1943 but returned to China in 1946, where she remained until 1950.Her papers consist of biographical information; correspondence files; educational files; financial and legal documents; her writings and other literary productions; talks given; Chinese literary materials; literary productions of others; notebooks; pictorial materials; printed materials and certificates; her professional files; a scrapbook; and artifacts. These materials relate to her missionary and teaching career as founder of the Wei Ling Girl's Academy in Soochow [now Wusien], China. en_US
